Chief Prosecutor Olsian Çela has stated that Berat is the quietest district, with the lowest crime rate, while the Gjirokastra district holds the first place with the highest percentage of criminality.
According to the 2022 report, which prosecutor Olsian Çela is presenting today to the Law Commission, the region of Shkodra had the largest increase in criminal events.
"In 2022, Berat district has the lowest crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants, while Gjirokastër district has the highest rate. As for the trend, it can be observed that Shkodër district has the highest growth with 10.64%, while Berat district has a crime rate below the national average, which results in a decrease of 25.09% compared to 2021", said Çela.
Meanwhile, during the past year, a total of 48,315 criminal proceedings were followed, which represents an increase of 1.69 percent compared to 2021. Çela stated that the largest number of proceedings was registered by the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance in Tirana with 33.88% of the total number of proceedings registered nationwide or with an increase of 2.57% of this ratio compared to 2021.
