Erling Haaland was not in his best form in the World Cup quarter-final against England and the reasons that may have influenced the Norwegian striker's lackluster performance have now been revealed.
According to former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino, the Norwegian star had taken to the field suffering from a virus, but despite his suboptimal condition he had decided to play.
Cascarino announced that during the break of the England-Norway match, which ended 2-1 after extra time in favor of the English, he had received information from a reliable source that Haaland had been facing health problems in the days before the match.
"Physically he didn't look good. It wasn't an injury, it was something else. I believe what I heard was true, he was sick ," Cascarino told TalkSport.
In that challenge, Haaland had very little impact on the game and was neutralized by the English defense, with Marc Guehi and John Stones not leaving much space for the Norwegian striker.
A few days before the match, it was reported that a virus had affected the Norwegian national team camp, but at that time the names of the affected players were not made public.
According to recent reports, among the affected players was Haaland, the team's key player, who failed to help Norway secure a place in the World Cup semi-finals.
The 26-year-old striker remained on the field until the end of the first half of extra time, before coach Ståle Solbakken substituted him.
