A protest was held this Tuesday in front of the Ministry of Economy by the Union of Trade Unions of Albania, which demanded a salary increase, improved working conditions for public service employees, an increase in the number of employees, strengthening social dialogue and collective negotiations, as well as greater guarantees of trade union rights.
In the framework of the United Nations Public Services Day, unions raised the alarm about the state of the public sector in the country, describing the situation as worrying and requiring immediate measures. According to them, the lack of staff and necessary resources is affecting not only the quality of services, but also the safety of citizens.
"Higher salaries. Today we are raising awareness for better public services, from schools to hospitals. The privatization of public services must be stopped. There are a number of other unions and unions here, who want to have their say," said the representative of one of the unions.
Miners also joined the protest, raising concerns about pensions and economic conditions. One of them spoke about the low pension he receives, while another expressed criticism of the political class.
"Rama resigns, Berisha resigns. Make way for young people to be part of this system," said another protester.
The participants warned that if their demands are not answered by the responsible institutions, the protest actions will continue.
