These tragedies are no longer rare news, they have become permanent, so frequent that they are returning to "normality" and are no longer alarming either society or the institutions that should be acting.
The injury of two minors, in broad daylight and near a school today in Shkodra, should have been the final alarm bell for Albanian institutions. But instead of reflecting, the country seems to be sinking into a frightening normality, where minors injure, kill and are killed, while no one is held accountable.
These tragedies are no longer rare news, they have become permanent, so frequent that they are returning to “normality” and are no longer alarming either society or the institutions that should act. Only recently, Albania has lost three minors to violence between peers: 14-year-old Martin Cani, stabbed in the heart near the “Fan Noli” school; 14-year-old Erald Xhejo in Maliq, killed during a banal conflict and 15-year-old Erion Boba, who lost his life after a fight started on TikTok, stabbed by a 14-year-old. All three different cases, but with the same root: the total abandonment of children by the system.
These crimes are revealing the frightening lack of psychological support and institutional education in schools. Children grow up without guidance, without counseling, without structure, while social networks incite aggression, violence and rivalry. This influence is not monitored, limited or prevented by institutions or parents, who often leave their children under the "education" of the phone.
Meanwhile, educational and law enforcement institutions only speak after tragedy strikes, always with the same statements, always with the same silence after the next funeral. The Ministry of Education seems to hide behind kind words and statistics that are presented as “successes,” while the reality of schools shows violence, injuries and deaths of minors. Children are being killed during school hours, in schoolyards, in neighborhoods, on the streets. And this should deeply shock the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior and every structure that has the safety and development of minors in its hands.
If we don't act today, tomorrow names will turn into just numbers. And then it will be too late not for the system, but for the children we were supposed to protect.
