Analyst Andi Bushati spoke about the Sazan project, an investment by President Trump's family members through a fund controlled by Jared Kushner.
Invited to the show "The Unexposed", Bushati said that such projects impoverish Albanians, who despite the tourist "boom", cannot afford to take even a week's vacation in the south of the country due to stratospheric prices.
"There was an article in "The Guardian" quoting Kushner. Rama and some hoteliers who are angry with them, say our prices are going up, that they tell us you have business opposite Trump's son-in-law. They ask Kushner if Albanians will be able to cross it and he said we can leave some hiking trails...
The Albanian people will be stripped of a wealth that was theirs. Wherever you turn the televisions, you will be sickened by the "Maldives of Europe" they say, but what has happened to the miracle of Albania's tourism? Surveys show that 50% of Albanians cannot take a week's vacation in the summer, because this boom has increased prices and deprived the local population of the right to rest on the coast.
"I'm not starving, but I haven't set foot in Dhërmi or Jalë in three years, because prices have become unaffordable even for a middle-class person. Is this a tourist boom that is enriching us and making our lives better? Or is it impoverishing us and turning Albanians into slaves to Trump's projects and a government that is simply a government of the rich, working for a handful of the rich?" Bushati said, among other things.
