At the Diaspora Summit, Director General Skënder Hita emphasizes the role of the police in ensuring security and improving Albania's image for tourists and visitors
The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, stated that security remains the key element that directly influences the choice of Albania by millions of tourists and visitors. During his speech at the Diaspora Summit, in the panel on migration and repatriation policies, he described security as the main “passport” of the country in relation to foreigners. According to him, guaranteeing public order and security is not only an institutional, but also a moral obligation, especially in the context of the significant increase in tourist flows.
Hita announced that the State Police is in a new phase of modernization and transformation, with the aim of increasing professionalism, transparency and trustworthiness towards citizens.
He emphasized that this transformation is based on three main pillars: investments in technology, strengthening human resources, and cooperation with international partners.
In this context, the role of community policing has also increased, aiming to get closer to citizens and address their needs more sensitively.
The Police Director underlined that the institution he leads is among the first contacts for every person entering Albania, which makes the image and service at border points important.
According to him, concrete measures have been taken to: improve conditions at border crossing points, equip them with modern technology and provide continuous training for employees.

Also, during the tourist season, police presence in coastal and tourist areas has been increased to guarantee a safe experience for visitors.
In his speech, Hita also focused on the challenges related to illegal migration. He emphasized the commitment of the Border Police in preventing migratory flows, mainly from Greece to Albania with destination in the European Union countries.
According to him, migrant smuggling networks have been cracked down on, organizers and transporters have been identified and punished, and international cooperation to prevent illegal trafficking has been strengthened.
A successful case of cooperation was mentioned with the United Kingdom, where according to Hita, the number of people attempting to enter illegally or use Albania as a transit country has been significantly reduced.

Referring to the security situation, Hita stated that no serious criminal incidents against tourists have been recorded. On the contrary, hundreds of cases have been recorded where police and citizens have offered assistance to visitors in need.
He also appreciated the role of local communities, considering assistance to tourists as an indicator of the hospitality and values of Albanian society.
