Belgian authorities have provided new details about the tragedy that occurred in Brussels, where six workers lost their lives after a fire in a building complex under reconstruction.
According to the latest report, the victims were trapped inside an elevator when flames spread rapidly through its shaft in the Oxy complex, which is located in a central area of the Belgian capital.
" Six bodies have been found ," a spokeswoman for the mayor of Brussels told AFP, adding that searches in the building are continuing, but so far there is no information about other victims.
For her part, the representative of the Labor Inspectorate, Valentina Marocki, said that the teams will also check the second elevator.
" We will also check the second elevator. We hope we don't find anyone there ," she said.
Firefighters were notified shortly before 8:00 a.m. of the fire in the complex where, at the time of the incident, about 200 people were working.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. According to authorities, the flames spread rapidly through the elevator shaft, trapping workers inside.
The rescue operation involved a large number of firefighters and emergency teams, who evacuated other workers and brought the flames under control.
Two people with burn injuries were transported to the Neder-over-Heembeek Military Hospital, while a firefighter suffered heatstroke and received medical attention at the scene.
Following the tragedy, King Philippe and Prime Minister Bart De Wever also arrived in the area, and were briefed by the authorities on the progress of the operation and investigations.
Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.
" My thoughts are with the victims and their relatives ," he wrote on the X platform, thanking the firefighters and all the teams that participated in the rescue operation.
Investigations to determine the causes of the fire and the circumstances that led to the workers being trapped in the elevator are ongoing.
