The situation created by landslides on the Elbasan-Librazhd-Qafë Thanë axis has brought immediate intervention from the Albanian Road Authority. The landslides have covered parts of the existing road, creating difficulties in traffic and raising concerns for the safety of the segment.
So far, the ARRSH has started clearing the area from the fallen masses of soil on both sides of the road, to stabilize the terrain and to open the necessary space for conducting a detailed geological study. This study aims to determine the causes of the landslide and the technical measures that need to be taken to avoid a recurrence of the phenomenon.
In parallel, the arrangement of the Shkumbin River has begun, which is being oriented to the left bank to create space for the construction of an alternative road along the railway line. This solution is seen as a temporary measure to guarantee the movement of vehicles until a revised project for the road axis is drafted and implemented.
The authorities have announced that, after the completion of the geological study, the implementation project for the new Elbasan–Librazhd–Qafë Thanë segment will be reworked, while information on the progress of the works will continue to be provided.
