The government's exploits are endless...
While the Albanian government decided to finance the private concert of American rapper Kanye West with 4.2 million euros, the largest public hospital in the country, the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center (MUT), has addressed citizens with a call for donations, as it lacks basic medical equipment.
The denunciation was made public by journalist Osman Stafa, who also published the official document of the QSUT, where the hospital announces a request for donations for the purchase of dozens of equipment necessary for the treatment of patients.
" QSUT calls on Albanian citizens to make donations to buy medical equipment. While the Albanian state finances a private concert with 4 billion lek. Is there a greater absurdity? The hospital asks citizens for lek, the state takes the lek to the spectacle. Scary ," writes Stafa.
In the published document, QSUT calls for support with necessary equipment such as 28 computers, printers, multifunctional photocopiers, respirators, laryngoscopes, defibrillators, patient monitors, electrosurgical units, videolaryngoscopes, ECGs, surgical microscopes, rhythm Holter and blood pressure Holter, among many other devices.
The announcement states that these devices are needed to improve service and increase the quality of patient care, appealing to the public to contribute.
The contrast comes at a time when the 4.2 million euro funding for Kanye West's concert has sparked strong political debate.
The government has defended the decision, arguing that it is an investment in tourism and the international promotion of Albania, with the expectation that the event will generate much greater revenue for the economy.
Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the concert "will put Albania on another global map" and that the amount allocated is not an expense, but an investment that will be returned through increased tourism and consumption.
On the other hand, the opposition has filed a complaint with SPAK against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Culture, Blendi Gonxhja, accusing them of "Abuse of office" and "Violation of equality of participants in tenders or public auctions." According to the Democratic Party, the state reserve fund cannot be used to finance a private concert, but only for cases of emergencies, natural disasters or extraordinary situations.
Meanwhile, the QSUT document has brought the state of the public health system back to the center of debate, raising questions about the priorities of state budget spending, at a time when the university hospital is seeking the help of citizens to provide basic equipment for the treatment of patients.
