"I can't sleep without my father, I want him back"/ France

France has deported another Albanian, separating him from his wife and two children (underage girls), while the "Solidarity" association, relatives and residents condemn the act of the authorities and requested the annulment of the decision, in support of the Albanian family.

Gazmir Hoti, 41, was deported to Albania on Tuesday (27 August). In an irregular situation, the father who lived in Surgères and worked in La Rochelle, was arrested in the morning at his home and then returned to his country of origin, "France Blue" reported . This was his second expulsion in two years.

Gazmir's supporters have also requested a meeting with the authorities in La Rochelle, as the media in question contacted them at the restaurant where Hoti worked as a cook since April, in the port area.

On one of the tables are photos with his children. Moreover, one of the girls, 6 years old, went to the journalists with a letter written in her hands and addressed to the prefect with this message:

"I want daddy back, I can't sleep without him."

This 41-year-old Albanian father, who lived in Charente-Maritime, returned to Albania, the country he left after being threatened by his sister's ex-husband.

The second expulsion in two years for Gazmir

In France, since 2015, Gazmiri rebuilt his life and met his current partner, also Albanian, in an irregular situation, who came with her two children born from a first marriage. Since their marriage, two daughters, 4 and 6 years old, were born.

Placed under the OQTF, an obligation to leave French territory, Gazmir was first deported in 2022, before returning to France a few days later.

During the following months, there were two attempts to deport him, but in two cases he "rebelled" on the plane that was going to take him back to Albania and in the end he did not leave. The prefecture also specifies that he was sentenced in 2023 with a 500 euro fine by the judicial court of Bordeaux, for "obstructing departure".

"This time he was deported to his country, where he is hiding in the capital for fear of his safety", explains the immigrant association Solidarité, which is in contact with him.

"We are traumatized by the situation"

As the woman speaks to ask for his return, there are tears and despair in her eyes.

"We don't feel good, we are traumatized by the situation", says Gazmir's wife. And he adds further: "We suffer for nothing, we both work, it's very difficult, I can't see the children crying."

There is sadness, but also anger for Eric Joyaux, member of the migrant association "Solidarité".

"It is an incredible loss, there would be every reason to act coherently because we cannot prevent people fleeing their country to save their lives, it is impossible. I am outraged, and I know that it is a political problem, the state and the Minister of the Interior must provide figures and facts".

For his part, Patrice Modolo says he is "scared". He is the owner of La Marie Galante restaurant, where Gazmir has been working since April.

"He has integrated himself in a remarkable way and has become a big brother to my new employees, I would have liked to have spent part of the road with him, because he is really very interesting," he said. .

Contacted by "France Bleu La Rochelle", the prefect of Charente-Maritime explained the unusual situation.

"His requests for asylum were rejected, not by the prefecture, but by OFPRA, the French office for the protection of refugees and stateless persons," says Brice Blondel.

However, the prefect wants to clarify that:

"This does not mean that we do not understand his situation, but I insist on one point: if this gentleman has all the levers for integration in this country as he speaks the language and has a job, he should apply for a visa to returned as an employee. Legal immigration exists, it takes energy and time, but it exists. It is the law and must be implemented."

The prefect recalls that in Charente-Maritime there are 50 "evictions per year" and that 5,000 residence permits are issued at the same time.
