The most recent report published by the Quality Agency of pre-university education shows that the performance of the education system has received 4 points out of 5, while there has been progress in 2023, deficiencies are evident.
The lowest rating is for not fully fulfilling inclusive access to education, especially for quality assurance for students from vulnerable groups.
It is further followed by the average qualification of teachers as well as the digitization of the system in a truncated manner; while there are better results in the objective of guaranteeing a safe and supportive environment in schools.
Increasing student attendance, especially in preschool and high school, remains a challenge for the Ministry of Education.
"Regarding the participation of children in the preparatory class, during the 2022-2023 school year, 23,008 children are registered. In the 2023-2024 school year, we have 21,709 children registered. The relative decrease in the number of registered children has come as a result of the decrease in the absolute number of children in Albania for known reasons," the report states.
A working group has been set up to prevent school dropouts, but the problem in the report is mainly emphasized in deep rural areas where schools are far away and there is a lack of transport.
The data show that the largest number of dropouts is recorded in secondary education, compared to compulsory basic education. In the gymnasium in 2023, the number of out-of-school children is 2505, almost double the number of dropouts in 9-year-old schools, where there are about 1600 students.
In the report, the improvement of the digital infrastructure in schools is also recommended as a priority, where it is recommended to enable wireless service in full function in all educational institutions, as well as to continue the training of teachers for the implementation of digital competence and combined teaching. / Top Channel
