SPAK has launched investigations into the mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, after a DP report against him for corruption.
The investigations started after the report of the Democratic Party, while the mayor is being investigated for the criminal offense of corruption. Investigations are focusing on compensation for damaged homes, from which people close to them have benefited.
Memolla took the post of mayor of Rrogozhina in 2022 securing a convincing victory with over 60 percent of the votes. He was the name proposed by the socialists after the death of former president Haxhi Memolla.
Memolla has been charged by SPAK in 2023 for active corruption in elections.
SPAK's investigations against Memolla started after an audio recording. In the audio, Edison Memolla, at that time a candidate for Mayor of Rrogozhinë, is heard influencing the electrician Blerim Xhamani, not to cut off the electricity to a debtor subscriber. All this was done in order for the citizen to vote in his favor in the partial local elections on March 6, 2022.
SPAK says that the investigations also confirmed that Memolla communicated with the citizen Blerim Xhamani, for employment in the Rrogozhin Municipality, in exchange for votes.
