Today, the Constitutional Court examines in an open session the law on taxation of free professions.
The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, reacted a day before the examination, stating that this is a battle against a corrupt fiscal system.
Tabaku points out that in Kosovo, free professions are taxed at 9%, while workers are taxed with a progressiveness of up to 10% (so, lower than in Albania). "If in Albania, free professions are taxed on paper with 15% to 23%, in the countries of the region this tax is much lower", she says.
Among other things, the democratic deputy writes that the economic crisis the country is going through is a crisis originating from the socialist majority and the corrupt fiscal system that this majority and government has sponsored.
"The next day (today) the Constitutional Court will examine in an open session the constitutionality of the Taxation of Free Professions. The government claims that we who oppose this tax are some anarchists who do not want taxation at all.
Indeed, we are the rational people who are against unfair taxation and a corrupt system that makes the majority pay more by burdening them with a heavy fiscal burden.
The policy of unfair taxation and the corrupt system has destroyed free enterprise and undoubtedly the risk takers have decided to leave the country.
The risk is that freelancers go to Kosovo or the neighboring countries of the region. Why?
In Kosovo, freelancers are taxed at 9%, while workers are taxed at a progressive rate of up to 10% (so, lower than in Albania).
If in Albania free professions are taxed on paper with 15% to 23%, in the countries of the region this tax is much lower. New businesses being created in Albania are the lowest percentage since 2010. New ventures for 2023 were 10.5% of the total number of active enterprises and this is the lowest indicator since 2010, but also at the level of pandemic.
Foreign Direct Investments have increased in value, but in reality they are investments in the purchase of apartments since the monopolized economy and custom laws of this majority do not offer any serious investment opportunities. The economic crisis that the country is going through is a crisis originating from the socialist majority and the system corrupt fiscal that this majority and government has sponsored. Therefore tomorrow the constitutional battle for the Free Professions is actually a battle against a corrupt fiscal system that is set up to tax work, knowledge and entrepreneurial risk while forgiving taxes to a minority that benefits from all the benefits of the budget, i.e. taxes of Albanians", wrote Tabaku.
