Ilir Meta, President of the PL, who has been in a cell since October 2024 under arrest by order of SPAK, has requested that the trial on the merits of his case be broadcast live by the media.
The trial against Meta and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi begins on Monday at the GJKKO, while the two politicians accused by SPAK claim that the Special Prosecution Office was used politically to target them, without evidence or facts.
" Out of respect for Albanian citizens and all compatriots, wherever they are, whom I have served with dedication, maximum responsibility and a deep sense of patriotism in the highest state duties (President of the Republic, Speaker of the Parliament and Prime Minister), I address today the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime with a public request to guarantee the live broadcast of this entire process, from the first session, on Monday, April 27, 2026, and until the end.
"In the interest of public information, all interested journalists and media outlets must be guaranteed a live broadcast signal. Transparency before Albanian citizens and accountability are an obligation for every institution and every public official ," Meta writes.
The request for live broadcast of court hearings has also been made by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, or even by Jamarbër Malltezi, the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
So far, the GJKKO has rejected the requests made by Malltezi and it seems that it will maintain the same stance in relation to the trial of Meta or Veliaj.
