Rexhepi's connections with the world of crime began in the 1990s, when he was still a teenager. He was suspected of working as a contract killer - and was convicted of killing two policemen in 1998, but only now, 27 years later, was he caught by Albanian police.
A former law student who flooded Britain with Class A drugs and killed two police officers has been extradited to Albania.
Notorious gangster Dritan Rexhepi - dubbed the "King of Cocaine" - had been on the run for 27 years and wanted in four states.
Rexhepi, 45, mostly stayed one step ahead of the law and managed to avoid capture and prison for many of his crimes across Europe.
Rexhepi became famous for his escapes from prison - even surpassing the Mexican drug lord, Joaquin Guzman Loera, better known as El Chapo.
He is also alleged to have ordered the ruthless revenge killing of the brother of a man suspected of stealing a £20 million cocaine shipment in England that belonged to Rexhep.
Drug kingpin Rexhepi appeared on Scotland Yard's most wanted list in 2013.
But the Albanian government beat Italy, Belgium and Britain to extradite Rexhep from Turkey. Footage showed the gangster in handcuffs and surrounded by police.
Rexhepi is accused of murder. It is also suspected that he ordered the kidnapping and execution of another Albanian, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as drug trafficking.
The General Director of the Albanian Police, Ilir Proda, told The Sun that "the extradition of Dritan Rexhepi is a great achievement and shows the confidence of the Albanian police in our partners around the world".
"At the same time, it is a great service for Albanian justice that sends a clear message that no wanted Albanian can think that he is safe where he is hiding abroad. We want to thank our Turkish colleagues who made his extradition to our country possible. This fugitive from justice was also wanted by Italy. It was a strong competition with Italy that would extradite him," said Proda.

In 2005, Rexhepi appeared to try to turn his life around by enrolling in law school. However, just one year later, the suspected assassin was arrested while he was in a luxury hotel in Tirana with an illegal pistol.
But that evening, Rexhepi staged the first of three spectacular escapes by leaving the interrogation room.
In 2013, he was convicted in absentia by the Tirana court for the murder of police officers Arben Keqi and Durim Kasmi, a crime committed in 1998.

Rexhepi më pas piketoi Mbretërinë e Bashkuar dhe pasi mbërriti, Scotland Yard publikoi foton e tij dhe e quajti një nga 17 të huajt më të rrezikshëm në tokën e angleze.
Policia në Mbretërinë e Bashkuar nuk arriti të binte në gjurmët e gangsterit, ndërsa ai shkoi në Ekuador ku edhe u përfshihe në trafikun e drogës.
Në qershor të vitit 2014, me një identitet dhe pamje tjetër, Rexhepi, i quajtur Gramoz, u arrestua në Quito.
Ai mbeti i paidentifikuar për më shumë se një muaj përpara se gjurmët e gishtërinjve të zbulonin se kush ishte.

But in addition to the fruit, cocaine worth 20 million pounds was also hidden on the ship.
After she disappeared, Rexhepi accused rival Albanian gangster Ndrek Prenga, who was in Great Britain, of her theft.
For revenge, Rexhepi is suspected of having ordered a hit on his brother Jan, who disappeared a little later.
But in 2020, the Bello Company was dismantled by Europol thanks to the cooperation of 10 different countries.
Rexhepi was still in prison - but was released in 2021 and banned from leaving Ecuador.
