The scandal deepens, Albania sent toxic waste to China in April

Albania has turned into a nightmare for all the countries of the world due to the country's involvement in the international trade of toxic waste, which enters and exits the border points without any problem.

The new facts that have come to light prove that that of Thailand was not an isolated case, but apparently part of a continuous criminal activity, which is suspected of corrupting state structures.

Capital publishes exclusive documents that show that in April of this year, Albania sent 115 containers of toxic waste to China. The cargo which was declared to be zinc concentrate and ore has been blocked by the Chinese authorities and currently the 115 containers are kept blocked at Nansha Port in Guangzhou, China.

The decision to block the cargo immediately followed analysis by Chinese authorities, which proved the containers were loaded with waste from the hydrometallurgical refining of non-ferrous metals, containing high levels of lead and other contaminants. The results of the analyzes have classified the cargo as waste, unlike what was stated in the accompanying export documents.

These cargoes were also transported by Maersk, the same company that transported the cargo of toxic waste that was supposed to be taken to Thailand.

The scandal has also been confirmed by the Basel Action Network, which has called on the Maersk company to return the containers blocked in China back to Albania.
"Maersk must return 115 containers of waste from Albania, which are blocked at the Port of Nansha, in the city of Guangzhou, China from April 2, 2024. These containers were blocked by Fengcheng Customs after analysis showed high levels of lead and other pollutants, proving that they are waste. Just as Maersk has agreed to return the 100 containers this month, the previous containers must also be returned to Albania," declared the Basel network.

These facts cast strong doubts that a genuine mafia activity is organized in Albania with the trade of hazardous waste. This trade is impossible to carry out without the corruption of state institutions responsible for border security, starting with the port authority, customs and further the border police.

Now that the facts are being revealed by the international media, it remains for the justice bodies to immediately open investigations to see what waste has circulated in Albania, who organizes this trade and to what extent the state is immersed in this criminal activity./ cAPITAL
