The Special Prosecution Office has confirmed that 14 high-level officials and former officials are currently being investigated, including three MPs, one former MP, and one former minister.
In a response to journalists' interest, SPAK has made public some important data regarding investigations against senior officials and international cooperation through letters rogatory.
The names and specific charges against them have not been made public due to investigative secrecy, but it is known that the investigations are ongoing and include criminal offenses related to corruption, abuse of office and money laundering.
In response to media interest, SPAK has also clarified that during the years 2022–2024, letters of request were sent to foreign authorities to obtain additional investigative materials from encrypted applications such as SKY ECC, EncroChat, and ANOM.
These applications have been used by criminal networks for secret communications, and international investigations have helped solve a number of serious criminal cases in Europe and beyond.
Regarding the January 21 file, SPAK stated that investigative actions carried out during the preliminary investigation phase constitute an investigative secret and therefore cannot provide information.
