This Wednesday morning, the complete removal of the Dragostunja bridge officially began, in the area known as "Arrat e Gurrës", on the Librazhd-Prrenjas national segment.
The structure was declared irreparable after severe damage caused by ground movements, which hit the foundations and put it out of service.
According to experts on the ground, a powerful landslide caused the road to shift and cracks in the bearing layers, making any repair work impossible. Due to the danger it posed to traffic, a controlled demolition was decided.
The operation is being carried out with specialized equipment and under constant technical monitoring, as the area is still considered unstable. In some surrounding areas, continuous ground movements are reported, which makes the intervention delicate.
The suspension of the bridge's operation has created serious traffic problems, forcing vehicles to divert to alternative rural roads, which are not adapted to high traffic. Residents of the area speak of difficulties in movement and delays in transportation.
The responsible institutions are expected to present a new project for the construction of another bridge, designed according to the geological conditions of the area. Meanwhile, the local community is demanding clear deadlines and guarantees that the next intervention will be long-term and safe.
