The Kosovo Anti-Corruption Commission (KAC) has acquitted six officials of the Albanian Regional State Administration (ARA) accused of violating equality in tenders, including a case related to the Grand Ring Road contract. The decision came after the criminal proceedings ended due to the statute of limitations, precluding further prosecution.

Meanwhile, five people have been found guilty of cultivating, producing and trafficking narcotics, as well as acting in a criminal group. Their sentences range from 7 to 8 years in prison, with a one-third reduction due to the summary trial.

In Rinas, Albanian police arrested Vito Cardinale, 61, an Italian citizen, sentenced by the Paris Court in 2024 to 2 years in prison for causing 2.5 million euros in damage to the French state and evading VAT during the transactions of several companies. The arrest was made during a border check and he is expected to be extradited to France.

In Tirana, a large-scale fire broke out in a building on “Ali Demi” Street. The flames engulfed the first floor and spread rapidly, causing the death of Theodhor Llullë, 72, who is suspected of having died from smoke inhalation. Firefighters and ambulances responded immediately to neutralize the flames and assist residents.

Another tragic event occurred in Spaç, where miner E. Gj., a father of five, was seriously injured in the copper mine. The unions and KSSH reacted by highlighting the lack of basic safety measures, qualified staff and controls, demanding a full investigation and concrete responsibility from the company and state institutions.

Kristjan Kola, 20 years old, died after a car accident on the Rrile-Shënkoll axis. The vehicle he was traveling in first collided with another vehicle and then went off the road, hitting a lighting pole. The young man was urgently transported to the Trauma Hospital, but the injuries he sustained proved fatal.

In Tirana, two girls, one 18 years old and the other a minor, disappeared from their family home. Their father has reported the case to the Police, who are cooperating with the community and appealing to citizens for any information on their whereabouts.

Albanian Customs, in cooperation with the branches in Kakavija and Durrës, blocked 5,340 pairs of sneakers suspected of violating intellectual property rights, bearing the brand names “Christian Dior” and “New Balance”. The goods have been seized for further verification and the procedures to determine whether they are counterfeit products are ongoing.

At the international level, Ecuadorian authorities, with the support of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, arrested 26 people during Operation Bremen, targeting a drug trafficking network linked to the Albanian mafia and the Los Lagartos group. During the 20-month investigation, approximately 300 kilograms of drugs and five luxury vehicles were seized, while the confiscated drugs are estimated to have caused an economic damage of 68 million dollars to criminal organizations.

In Pristina, the Basic Court ordered a one-month pre-trial detention order for the well-known artist Gjest, suspected of intimidation, damage to property and possession of weapons without authorization. The court reasoned that the pre-trial detention is necessary to guarantee the course of the investigation and to prevent the risk of flight, influence on witnesses and repetition of the offense. Dissatisfied parties can file an appeal with the Court of Appeal.
