The Russian Defense Ministry will take all necessary measures to ensure Russia's security in the event that US nuclear weapons are deployed on Polish territory, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"The army, of course, will analyze the situation in case of the realization of such plans and in any case will do everything necessary, all the necessary retaliatory steps to guarantee our security," Peskov said.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that the Polish authorities are ready to place American nuclear weapons on their territory.
Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, President Vladimir Putin has made secret nuclear threats to the West, even hiding nuclear weapons in Belarus, which borders NATO members Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
Duda admitted that nuclear weapons have also been the subject of talks between Poland and the US "for some time".
"I have spoken several times about this. I have to admit that when I was asked I expressed our readiness," he said.
"We are an ally of the North Atlantic Alliance and we have obligations. It simply means the implementation of a common policy", Duda said.
The "Nuclear Sharing" program allows the United States of America to place its nuclear weapons in NATO countries that do not possess them. The US has 100 tactical nuclear missiles in Europe and Turkey. Warheads range from 0.3 to 50 kilotons for the B61-3 and B61-4 bombs and are stored at six bases in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey.
