Vlora under water, residents with tears in their eyes: Horror, the struggle of a

Mother Liria has passed her 80s but she never remembers a flood like the one on October 4, when the water flooded her apartment, damaging all the household furniture. Today he is at the mercy of fate without any help, while he can barely stand on his feet.

"I am 80 years old and I have operated on my eye. I told him in the chair that we did not leave the house because we were afraid that the rain would come again. We asked the police and the municipality, but no one came to us. The canal has not been cleaned for two years, I have given them 100 times. Ishalla to come here to ask for votes! Around 4 o'clock the rain started and came at us furiously. The canal gave all this work, when it was full the canal came out on the road, we drowned inside. All the spoils of the house were damaged. The refrigerator was floating in the water. This is the second time we drowned, the mayor came, the first time they gave us a piece of paper and did not give us the reward".

All the apartments on the first floors in the neighborhood "11 Janari" in Vlora, in the area known as "Pusi i Mezinit" have been flooded. With tears in their eyes, the residents tell Report TV the moments of hell when the water flooded their homes. All household furniture is between water and mud.

"The water came from the windows, we put sack tiles on the bathroom, it was a volcano! Impossible. We said save our children. Everything is damaged, we have nothing at home".

It came furiously, it was a big river. They took the broom to remove water. The balcony, the toilet was full. We couldn't maneuver. I have taken out the mattresses. We are devastated. I called the municipality and no one answered the phone. They didn't reply even by sms. We didn't have the energy to put the pump on.

Rice and pasta have all gone down (crying), my sister didn't know where the water came from. It happened another year, but not like now. The TV fell to the ground. Did you ask for help? With what? Shall we talk to the laraskas? You couldn't talk to people. No internet or light. All night without sleep. I have been in Vlora for 44 years, all my efforts went to waste. I can't talk anymore...

We are in water and mud all night and we can't remove the sludge. If the rain continued even a little, we would die completely. Did you ask for help? Yes, my help. Shero's opinions. Not cleaning the drains is the cause. They made asphalt there so that it becomes a beautiful thing. They destroyed us, left us without bread, without anything. We are retired, we are sick. We have no clothes to wear. We are pensioners. Everything in the power of water. We drowned, we said, the tribe got up, nobody came from the municipality.

Residents blame the municipality for not cleaning the drainage channel which, as seen in the picture, is covered with garbage. Economically ruined and abandoned to their fate, they do not hide their disappointment with the government and the municipality.

Only luck has saved the residents of the Kala neighborhood near Cold Water from death. The rock broke off and fell on their homes, as all of Vlora was engulfed in Friday's biblical rains. Two houses in this neighborhood have collapsed, while the homeless residents are asking for help from the institutions, but so far they have not received any response. Residents call for urgent intervention and support from the authorities

The floods in Vlora have also left despair in businesses. Pharmacist Fotaq Veneti describes the great damage that amounts to around 100 thousand euros.

"The water level reached about half a meter inside the pharmacy. My loss could be around 100,000 euros," he says, while recounting the moments of fear when he was locked inside, unable to get out.

"I have a pharmacy. A very big damage, I can't say a fixed value but somewhere around 100 thousand euros of pharmaceutical products. The hatch was closed to prevent part of the flood, but knowing that we stayed inside, we called to get out because the situation reached up to 50 cm of water inside. We stayed inside for 2 hours. There are almost 20-50 businesses along this street. This is the umpteenth time, like a disaster," said Fotaq Veneti, a pharmacy owner.

Another testimony brought by Report TV is that of Pëparim Çelaj, the owner of a market, who tells the nightmare of the flood.

"I was trapped in the store, I couldn't get out," he says, describing the heavy flows of water that left him stranded in the store.

"Nearly 5 million old lek in damage, very bad situation. It happens year after year here. Big trouble. I got stuck in the store and couldn't get out. There were large flows", said Përparim Celaj, owner of a market.

The pain is also reflected in the words of the owners of small businesses on the Transbalkanike road and in the "28 novimari" neighborhood.

"Winter after winter, it becomes sea here. We are forced to fix everything ourselves. The state does not take measures. The damage can be 1 million lek for cleaning, painting minimum. We have been flooded 20 times, I lost 20 million ALL, no one will know", he says, with a deep sense of disappointment.

"I have the refrigerators, they are out of the game, plus other materials. The damage amounts to 5-6 million old lek. We moved as much as we could, that's all we achieved. The same situation happened 6-7 years ago. The hydraulics did not work. There may be 20-30 businesses in this area. You are the first to come, no one has come".

The institutions have not yet made an assessment of the damages in Vlora, but all the poor residents and those who support their families with small businesses demand from the government compensation for their destroyed properties. /albania.com
