The murder of judge Astrit Kalaja

The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Gjon Shkëmbi, who after the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja requested to be released.

Gjon Shkambi claims that he was unaware of the actions of his nephew Elvis Shkambi, who shot and killed Judge Kalaja as soon as the latter read the decision against his request regarding a property dispute.

Meanwhile, according to information, the prosecution has sent the phones of the two arrested for examination to discover what communications there were between the two.

On October 6, 2025, Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot in the courtroom by Elvis Shkambi, where father and son Ragip and Ervis Kurti from the opposing side were also injured.

Elvis Shkambi and his uncle Gjon were waiting for a decision, among many in the saga of legal proceedings, regarding the conflict they had with 31 families over property issues. The Shkambi family had benefited from a property as a former owner since the 1990s, but the housing of 31 families in the same building started the legal conflict that has lasted for 3 decades.
