
The investigative show "Në Shënjestër" exclusively brought this Tuesday details from the investigative file for the murder of Kristian Marku, also known by the pseudonym Kristi Bardhi, who was the latest victim of a long chain of blood feuds between two well-known tribes in the north of the country, the Reçi and the Gjini.
An inherited conflict that knew no compromise and spared no lives for decades. Now, his name is added to the long list of victims of this silent and bloody war.
After months on the run and constant movement from one end of Albania to the other, on the evening of January 13, 2025, near the village of Novoselë in Vlora, Kristian Marku is ambushed.
It was initially reported as a road accident, but it was soon discovered to be a professionally organized assassination.
"On January 13, 2025, police services received a report that on the highway, in the village of Novoselë, near a gas station, a vehicle collided with the traffic divider, and as a result the driver lost his life," the investigative file states.
According to the file, at around 18:00, a call to the police operations room reported an accident with fatal consequences. Kristian Marku was found dead in the driver's seat of a Volkswagen Passat, with license plates AB107PN.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been shot with a volley of gunfire on the left side and front. 11 bullets were found in the victim's body, 10 of which in the torso, leaving him with no chance of escape.
Just a few minutes after the assassination, at a checkpoint near the area known as "Kripa" in Panaja, police found another burned-out vehicle, a black Volkswagen Golf 5.
A license plate AA 300 ZD was found next to the vehicle, which after verification turned out to have been stolen the day before the incident by a police officer on duty at the Vlora Police Department.
Details from the investigative file reveal that just a few minutes after the execution of citizen Kristjan Marku, near the village of Panaja, police services found a completely burned-out Volkswagen car at a parking lot on the highway, near a place called 'Kripa'.
A vehicle with a license plate 'AA 300 ZD' found on the ground next to it, which after verifications resulted in it being reported stolen on January 12, 2025, by citizen E. M, resident of Novosela, on duty as a police officer at the Vlora Police Department. The license plate belonged to his vehicle, a 'Fiat' model 'Punto'.
The severity with which the car in which Kristian Marku was traveling on the evening of January 13 was shot was also seen in the bullets he received in his body. Bullets that proved fatal for his life, giving him no chance of escape. While the car in which he was traveling was shot in its left wing as well as in the front.
"During the verification of the vehicle with license plate AB 107 PN, in which the victim Kristian Marku was traveling, numerous damages caused by gunshots were identified on the doors on the left side of the vehicle, as well as broken windows on the doors on this side and the front window on the right side.
"Where 11 wounds were found on the victim's body, 10 of which were in the torso, which proved fatal," the investigative file continues.
Initially, investigators were unable to identify the chassis number due to fire damage. However, after further examination on January 15, they were able to identify the engine and transmission numbers.
This led to the discovery of the origin of the vehicle, which turned out to be registered in Slovenia, owned by a Kosovar citizen with the initials JB, residing in Podujeva.
"According to verifications carried out by Interpol Tirana, the vehicle with engine number 'BKC 135 512' belongs to the vehicle with vehicle identification number (VIN) '……….6079', which is a 'Volkswagen Golf 5', black, year of manufacture 2004.
"Whereas Interpol Ljubljana has responded that this vehicle, with license plates CE DB975, was owned by Kosovar citizen J. B, resident in Podujeva. Likewise, the user of this vehicle was also citizen E. B, also born in Kosovo, resident in Celje, Slovenia," the investigative file of the murder of Kristian Marku states.
The car had entered Albania through the border with Kosovo, while its other user was the owner's brother, EB, a resident of Celje, Slovenia. The latter confirmed to investigators that he was aware that the car had been sold and knew to whom it had been transferred. / In Target News24/
