The contract that the Democratic Party has signed with the American company continues to cause a stir. Daniel Friedman, one of the journalists of "Mother Jones" magazine that revealed two scandals: That of Lulzim Basha's lobbying and that of Ilir Meta, has also reacted to this contract.
He has made several posts on "X", linking to the contract that Basha signed.
" An opposition party in Albania, led by a man who is trying to overturn the US State Department's Non Grata decision, issued for his involvement in corrupt acts, is paying $6 million to a firm that hired the daughter of Susie Wiles, Marco Rubio's former chief of staff, to lobby the Trump administration."
The FARA registration states that the Democratic Party of Albania has nominally contracted another company “Continental PLLC”. This company will work on legal matters related to Sali Berisha in the US. I believe this cannot be shown under FARA rules.
The Democratic Party of Albania also hired a lobbying firm to try to gain access to the Trump administration in 2017. It didn’t go over well. A U.S. intelligence assessment later found that the lobbying firm was secretly paid with Kremlin funds as part of a broader Russian influence effort ,” he writes.
The DP has signed a contract with "Continental Strategy", the main goal of which is to remove "non grata" from Berisha. The contract is for 2 years and the DP will pay 250 thousand dollars every month. But this amount is higher than almost all the lobbying contracts that have been signed by Albanian parties over the years.
