Shkëlqim Goxhaj, the fire chief in Tirana, has given details about the fire that engulfed the "Metropol" shopping center since 14:40 today.
According to him, the suspicions are that the fire may have come from the overheating of an object inside the shopping center.
"In these moments, it cannot be called an electric spark, but these fires are caused by equipment overload. These fires come as a result of the buildings not being able to cope with the electrical power ", said Goxhaj for "Report TV".
While talking about the current situation, Goxhaj said that 4 firefighting vehicles with 12 firefighters have arrived from Tirana, who will make it possible to clear the smoke with aspirators.
Regarding the possibility that there are still trapped residents inside the multi-storey building, the fire chief of Tirana has given some advice for the people who are suspected to be still inside the apartments.
"The fire is being extinguished. The most problematic situation is due to smoke. Care must be taken with the evacuation of citizens, do not move from their apartments but wait for the teams. We also have aspirators that will help in clearing the smoke and we will improve the situation. The advice is that in such facilities, the main door should never be opened, but wet clothes should be placed under the door so that the smoke does not enter the interior of the apartments. "Those who are on the upper floors of the building should go to the terrace and stay there until the fire brigade arrives ," he added.
