Residents of the Kënetë area in Durrës have faced significant flooding today as a result of heavy rainfall, describing a serious and problematic situation for daily life.
Speaking to News24 and journalist Osman Stafa, residents said that water has invaded homes, yards and streets, while movement has become almost impossible. According to them, the water level in some houses has exceeded one meter.
" The situation today has been very difficult. There has been a lot of rain and firefighters with pumps are needed to remove the water from the yards. We have not taken the children to kindergarten ," said a resident.
Another resident said that the flooding started in the early hours of the morning and that interventions so far have not yielded results. " We don't know what to do, we are asking for intervention from the state. Representatives of the municipality have come, but the situation remains the same. We have tried to stop the water with bags ," he said.
Another resident described the extensive damage caused by the floods. “ There is over a meter of water in my house. My apartment is flooded and the road is impassable. No one has come to help. Today I am forced to stay outside my house. Families and businesses have been flooded ,” he said.
One of the residents managed to move around his neighborhood only in a small dinghy, witnessing from the middle of the water the dire situation in the area. " The situation is a catastrophe, it couldn't be worse. It's a rare case. Without this dinghy, I can't get out, we have small children and major material damage at home ," he said.
The resident said he had bought the dinghy for his child to use at sea, but he never thought he would have to use it inside the neighborhood. " Otherwise we can't go out. We're afraid of the electricity, the lights have gone out and come on several times. No one has come to ask what's going on. We haven't even been able to go out to see the situation around us ," he said.
The Kënetë area is considered one of the most problematic areas of Durrës whenever there is intense rainfall. Residents are calling on local and central authorities for immediate intervention, as the situation continues to remain difficult.
