From immigrant drafted into the Greek army to Minister of Defense, how Edi Rama built an accelerated career for Vengu and his family...
It remains a mystery how Pirro Vengu, in 2013, at the age of 27, went from being an immigrant called up to perform mandatory military service in Greece as a Greek citizen, to becoming Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania. This appointment marked the beginning of an unusual and accelerated career in the dome of power.
From 2013 to 2017, Vengu headed the cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then, in the period 2018–2024, he was appointed Director of the Anti-Corruption Department in the Prime Minister's Office, Director of the Durrës Port Authority, Board Member in the Cadastre and Chairman of the Board of the "Alabbar" tower company. In July 2024, Edi Rama appointed him Minister of Defense and later also as a member of parliament.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has been the only political factor that has pushed this career forward with unusual speed. He has elevated Pirro Vengu to the top of the state, entrusting him with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, the department responsible for Albania's national and territorial security.
For this appointment, Rama has ignored an essential fact. Pirro Thoma Vengu, until 2013, was called up to perform military service as a Greek citizen. Before swearing on the Albanian Constitution for loyalty to the Albanian state, he had sworn on the Greek Constitution for eternal loyalty to the defense of Greece. This fact constitutes an open conflict with the constitutional principles related to the direction of the security sector.
Meanwhile, Edi Rama has built a parallel career for his wife. In January 2021, Eda Vengu was appointed Director of the Security Department at "Albcontrol". She was later appointed Political Advisor at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, a position she continues to hold today.
By Decision No. 426, dated June 26, 2024, signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Eda Vengu was also appointed Member of the Steering Council of the Civil Aviation Authority, with the function of Deputy Chairwoman. Thus, the Vengu family has concentrated in her hands key roles in strategic sectors of air, maritime and infrastructure security.
For twelve years, Pirro Vengu has simultaneously or in rotation held positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister, the Durrës Port Authority, the Cadastre, the “Alabbar” company, the Ministry of Defense and the Parliament. In parallel, through his wife, the family has also taken over Albcontrol, the Civil Aviation Authority and political advice in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
This concentration of power in a close family circle is no coincidence. It is the product of a governance model where the personal loyalty and interests of the prime minister prevail over constitutional standards and principles of national security.
It remains to be seen to which other state positions Edi Rama will further appoint Pirro Vengu and his wife, while the responsibilities for this scheme remain without an institutional address./ Pamphlet

Nje miku im me thote se Greqia e ka Shqiperine ne sirtar, si Berishen si Edin i ka ne kontroll te plote. Ne kete konstatim nuk shoh ndonje risi, ne ne fakt historikisht kemi qene kukulla te te tjereve, italianeve, jugosllaveve, ruseve, kinezeve e pse greqia nuk u dashka ta provoje Shqiperine?
