In January 2024, Edi Rama created the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, placing “Mon Kukalesh” Blendi Gonxhe at the head. The goal was clear: sectors with large funds and assets in the hands of an old loyalist.
But with the latest restructuring, Rama dissolved this ministry and stripped Gonxha of the economic sector, appointing him Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports. Here too, there are assets, inheritance funds, beach permits and tourist licenses, where Gonxha can continue his "craft", but he lost the "big field" of tenders and auctions, where he had been a mastermind for 20 months as a super-minister.
Here's what Blendi Gonxhe no longer controls:
· The Centralized Purchasing Operator, where 80% of state tenders are held.
· Directorate of Concessions and PPPs.
· Directorate of Foreign Funds Administration.
· The Directorate of State Properties and their sale.
· Directorate of Industrial Property, Metrology and Standardization.
· Internal Audit Directorate for ministries, municipalities and state-owned companies.
· The Housing Directorate and social housing funds.
· Investment Development Agency (AIDA).
· Employment Agencies and Labor Inspectorate.
· Market Surveillance Inspectorate.
· Social Security Institute.
· National Business Center (NBC).
· General Directorate of Accreditation and Foreign Trade.
· Economic and technological zones with their financial projects.
· State Aid Commission and sovereign guarantees.
· The Investment Corporation, lands for "strategic investors" and the Mountains Package.
The moment Babloku took these away from him, Gonxhe was left "in the lurch". The loss of this barn is not simply a reduction in powers, but a clear message: Rama no longer trusts the fool who used him as a obedient puppet since 1998, from the Ministry of Culture, to the Municipality of Tirana, to the Directorate of Transport, and up to the post of super-minister.
The wonder is: why did he take it away?
Why did Rama take the economic-financial "Empire" from Gonxhe, while he has meticulously implemented every bargain he was ordered to? Doubts are open: either Gonxhe has crossed the red line by taking more than he should, or Babloku has decided to change players in the field where the big power bargains are made./ Pamphlet
