Ivanka Trump will have to testify in a court case related to business fraud against her father, Donald Trump, the former US president, and his brothers, a judge in New York has decided.
Previously, she said that she did not need to participate in this case, on the grounds that she had left New York and renounced the Trump Organization.
But Judge Arthur Engoron has said that she still has ties to Trump's businesses and his properties in New York.
He has already estimated that Donald Trump has increased the value of his property to get better loans.
The trial focuses on six other claims made in the lawsuit, including falsifying business records, insurance fraud and conspiracy.
The defendants have rejected the claims against them.
Prosecutors believe Ivanka Trump has important information she can share in the case.
But her lawyers believe she has no legal basis to testify, as she has not been part of the Trump Organization since 2017 and has since moved to Florida.
This civil case was brought to court against former President Trump by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is a Democrat.
James is seeking $250 million in fines for Trump and tough restrictions on his businesses.
Trump, who is at the head of the race to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, has rejected the claims, and has described the case as politically motivated./ REL
