Ceasefire in Ukraine, US-Russia meet in Riyadh; Zelensky awaits Trump's

Mykhailo Podolyak, an aide to President Zelensky, said the talks scheduled for Sunday in Saudi Arabia were expected to be bilateral between the US and Russia, adding that there were no plans for Ukraine to participate.

But Podolyak added that we will have to wait for the results of a Trump-Zelensky phone call, later today or tomorrow, to know when further talks involving Ukraine will take place.

"The president wants to fully understand the content of this phone call from Trump. The main thing is to understand how Trump sees the results of his phone call with Putin and draw conclusions from that," he stressed.

Reflecting on the recent discussion between Trump and Zelensky, the disastrous meeting at the White House, he said, “it was a very emotional conversation in the Oval Office and it showed that contradictions had been created. These contradictions were then put on the negotiating table in Saudi Arabia and very quickly there were formal and informal communications .”

" The administrations created negotiating teams and we quickly moved on to discussing concrete issues around these contradictions and found a synchronized position ," he said.

The Kremlin's statement that Putin had said the West must cut off all Western military support and intelligence sharing for Ukraine before a ceasefire can be agreed upon is a very strange request.

Putin is saying 'we want you to disarm and then we can continue to fight'. That's what it sounds like... He wants Ukraine to give up its army, to give up security guarantees, to give up its right to be in alliances and to give up various territories.

This is what he has been fighting for for three years, and he could not do it militarily… And now this is what he wants from the negotiation process ,” Podolyak emphasized.

On the other hand, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said he agreed with his Russian counterpart, Yuri Ushakov, that the two sides will hold further talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the aim of "expanding the partial ceasefire that President Trump secured from Russia."

"I spoke today with my Russian counterpart Yuri Ushakov about President Trump's efforts to end the war in Ukraine. We agreed that our technical teams will meet in Riyadh in the coming days to focus on implementing and expanding the partial ceasefire ," he said.
