Authorities are ordering citizens to stay close to shelters, as fears grow of a direct escalation between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

The Israeli government announced late Sunday the closure of all schools in the country for Monday, after the Israeli military intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Iran towards Israeli territory.

The Civil Protection Command (Home Front Command) called on residents to stay close to shelters and strictly follow safety instructions, due to the risk of further escalation of the situation.

The decision to close schools comes after the Israeli military raised the alarm after it announced it had detected ballistic missiles launched from Iran. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), air defense systems managed to intercept the missiles, while alarm sirens were activated in several areas of the country.

Israeli sources say that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held urgent consultations with security leaders to assess the situation and next steps.

Tensions have escalated sharply after Sunday's Israeli attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. Iran had previously warned that such a strike would bring a direct response.

Security measures imposed by Israeli authorities include restrictions on public activities, gatherings and the normal functioning of educational institutions, while the country remains on high alert for further possible attacks.

Recent developments are raising concerns about a wider regional confrontation between Israel and Iran, at a time when fighting in Lebanon and Gaza continues to fuel tensions in the Middle East.
