The movement is led by Igor Volobuyev, a former bank executive who defected to Ukraine after the Russian invasion of 2022.

The Russian group "Black Spark" says it aims to weaken Vladimir Putin's ability to continue the war in Ukraine through acts of sabotage against military, energy and transportation infrastructure in Russia.

According to the Daily Mail, the representative of the movement is Igor Volobuyev, a former bank executive who fled to Ukraine after the start of the Russian invasion in 2022 and then took up arms against the Russian government.

Volobuyev claims that "Black Spark" has set up a covert network across Russia. He says the group has targeted locomotives, railway lines, gas pipelines, oil refineries and structures linked to the Russian military industry.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Volobuyev stated that the group's mission is to "exhaust the economic potential of the Putin regime," with a particular focus on the oil industry, which he describes as a key source for financing the war.

The group has recently released several videos on Telegram, claiming to show its members entering oil facilities and military units, using incendiary and explosive devices. The authenticity of these images and the group's claims has not been independently verified.

According to Volobuyev, since the beginning of the year, the Black Spark has damaged or destroyed dozens of locomotives used to transport oil, oil products and military cargo. He claims the damage amounts to up to $50 million.

One of the most recent operations, according to the group, was the destruction of a tanker truck carrying 73,000 liters of oil in Krasnodar, in southwestern Russia. The group says the tanker was connected to Lukoil's supply network.

Black Spark also claims to have hit two important Gazprom pipelines near St. Petersburg, Belousovo-Leningrad and Konnaya Lakhta. According to the group, these pipelines supplied energy to major defense industry companies, including the Severnaya Verf and Admiralty shipyards, as well as structures associated with the Almaz-Antey missile manufacturer.

Volobuyev says the group has also taken part in attacks against the Ilsk oil refinery, near the Black Sea, the Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery near St. Petersburg, as well as two ships that, he said, were transporting weapons and military equipment in the Caspian Sea.

He claims that “Black Spark” also has cyber capabilities. According to him, members of the group have damaged the IT infrastructure of the Trans-Oil company, paralyzing commercial activities and product deliveries.

The organization presents itself as part of a broader resistance movement within Russia. Volobuyev claims that the group has supporters in state institutions and large companies, including structures linked to Gazprom.

The former banker argues that economic problems in Russia, losses in the war in Ukraine and increasing political repression are creating ground for resistance against the Kremlin.
