If you've ever ordered from Temu or Shein for ridiculous prices, maybe it's time to think twice. The European Union has discovered that many of the products coming from these platforms are beyond any safety standards and, moreover, with alarming levels of toxicity!
EU Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath told The Guardian that the situation is “shocking” and requires urgent action to protect consumers. He did not mince words: “Digital platforms must be held liable for products, even when they are sold by third parties.”
This concerns the sale of pacifiers that easily break off, cosmetics with dangerous substances, toys and clothes with toxic ingredients.
Meanwhile, the EU has launched an undercover investigation with "masked shoppers" to catch violators red-handed.
But it doesn't end there, in addition to the health risk, these platforms are putting European businesses in an unequal position, avoiding VAT, customs duties, and labeling rules.
So, the next time you click "Buy now" on a 2 euro dress, don't say we didn't warn you.
