From September 1, 2025, a chemical ingredient widely used in nail products, called TPO (trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide), will no longer be allowed to be sold or used by professional salons in all EU countries.

This ingredient helped the nail polish dry quickly and last long, but it has been discovered to be harmful to health and has been classified as a hazardous substance.

Now, all products containing TPO must be removed from the market and can no longer be used, even if they are still available in beauty salons.

Although TPO has been one of the most preferred ingredients for semi-permanent manicures due to the excellent results it provides, the health risk it poses is very high.

Therefore, this firm decision has been made: there will be no more production, sale or use of products containing it.

What does the EU ban entail?
The EU decision is clear: a total ban on the production, import, sale and use of cosmetic or nail products containing trimethylbenzoyl (TBO) and dimethylolylamine

Deadline: September 1, 2025

Products with these substances cannot be used or sold in any EU member state.

Nail salons should remove them from inventory.

Retailers should stop listing or marketing such items.

Distributors and manufacturers must stop shipping them to the EU.

Failure to comply can lead to: Fines of up to €22,000.

Temporary or permanent closure of business.

In serious cases, criminal prosecution and imprisonment.
