The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, today presented the agreement reached with Albania for the immigrant centers run by the Italians in Gjadër, during an informal meeting on migration with the 10 member states in Brussels.
Although the head of the European Commission, von der Leyen, has expressed some interest in this agreement, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that immigration reception centers outside the European Union are not a solution. He added that this is not the right way for a big country like Germany.
Scholz made the comments in Brussels on Thursday as he arrived for an EU summit. According to him, Germany has reduced the number of asylum seekers with other policies.
"A thousand here and two thousand there is not enough if we want to reduce the figure of 300,000 and here, we achieved a significant reduction," he said.
In recent months, Germany had nearly 50% fewer asylum applications than a year earlier, and deportations also continued.
