A ceasefire, getting aid to Gaza and freeing Israeli hostages remain the UK's priorities amid reports that the leader of Hamas may have been killed, Downing Street has said.
The Israeli military is "checking the possibility" that Yahya Sinwar died in an attack earlier today. Asked whether the UK would want to scale back operations in Gaza if he is confirmed dead, a No 10 spokeswoman said they defended Israel's right to strike back.
" We stand by their right to self-defense and to prevent such a terrorist attack from happening again. As you know, Hamas is a banned terrorist organization. These continue to be our priorities ," she said.
She added that the UK has continued to call for diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire that would allow more aid to Gaza and the release of hostages.
