US Central Command spokesman Timothy Hawkins has stated that approximately 200 American troops have been injured in seven different countries during the ongoing military campaign against Iran.
The vast majority of these injuries, according to Hawkins, have been minor and more than 180 US service members have already returned to duty.
The update brings the total to 140 U.S. troops the Pentagon said had been injured since March 10. At the time, the agency said eight of those injuries were serious.
A US official told CNN that service members who are considered seriously injured include significant cases where death is possible or imminent.
Meanwhile, thirteen American service members have been killed in action to date.
It is not uncommon for the number of injuries to fluctuate or increase over time, as service members may not seek care immediately after an incident depending on its severity.
