Ukraine talks/ Trump phone call with Zelensky: Something will happen!

US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to hold a phone call today, the White House announced, after the US president said earlier that he would also communicate with Vladimir Putin soon.

Despite the uncertainties, Trump has stated that he remains committed to achieving a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky and a peace agreement between the two hostile countries.

"I've been watching the situation, I've been following it, and I've spoken to President Putin and President Zelensky about it. Something is going to happen, but they're not ready yet. But something is going to happen. We'll get through it," Trump told CBS News.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to reject the security guarantees demanded by Ukraine, saying they are unacceptable. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova took aim at Volodymyr Zelensky, saying his ideas are a “copy” of what she called the European war party.

"The security guarantees demanded by Ukraine pose a threat to the European continent and are absolutely unacceptable. The ideas of the Kiev leader, which are essentially a copy of the initiatives of European sponsors - not even sponsors, but the European party of war, as we have said more than once - are absolutely unacceptable. They are aimed at preserving Ukraine as a launch pad for terror, for provocations against our country," she stressed.

Maria Zakharova also reiterated the red line for them, that they will not allow foreign military intervention in Ukraine. According to her, the sale of over 3,000 missiles by the US to Ukraine also undermines the aspiration to end the conflict.

"Russia will not discuss the idea of foreign military intervention in Ukraine in any form. Russia does not intend to discuss the idea of foreign intervention in Ukraine, which is completely unacceptable and undermines security, in any form. Moreover, the possible sale by the US of over 3,000 missiles contradicts the aspiration to resolve the conflict diplomatically," Zakharova added.
