US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said Israel cannot use the October 7 Hamas attack as a license to kill others, as he called for its military to reduce the number of civilian casualties in Gaza.
His comments come as the war in Gaza against Hamas continues to strain Israel's relations with Washington.
" Israelis were killed in the most horrible way on October 7, but that cannot be a license to kill others ," Blinken said at a press conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
Blinken further added that most of the casualties in Gaza had nothing to do with Hamas attacks. He added that the lives of thousands of people in the belt depend on the aid that Israel allows to enter. He called for reflection on Netanyahu, who has rejected proposals for a ceasefire.
" The vast majority of people in Gaza had nothing to do with the attacks. The families in Gaza, whose survival depends on the delivery of aid from Israel, are just like our families. They are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, who want to earn a good living, send their children to school, have a normal life. And we cannot, we must not forget this" , emphasized Blinken.
