Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump delivered their final speeches to voters Monday night in the same part of Pennsylvania at roughly the same time, capping the final day of the presidential campaign in a state that could be decisive in November 5 elections.
Trump campaigned in Redding, about 30 miles from Allentown, where Democrat Harris gave a speech about half an hour later.
"Winning Pennsylvania would give us victory in elections across the country," Trump said.
Indeed, a Trump victory in Pennsylvania, a state with 19 Electoral College votes, would make it difficult for Ms. Harris to secure the 270 votes needed to win the presidential election.
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris spent all of Monday in Pennsylvania, the undecided state with the most votes in the Electoral College, stressing the need to win in the state.
"We need everyone in Pennsylvania to vote," she said. "Your vote will be decisive in this election."
"Are you ready?" Ms. Harris said before a campaign rally earlier in Scranton, a large "VOTE FOR FREEDOM" sign behind her.
Trump first went to North Carolina before visiting Reading, Pennsylvania. He then went to the other side of Pennsylvania, to the city of Pittsburgh, before closing the campaign with an election rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Trump held his last campaign rally in this city in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Former President Trump in North Carolina earlier talked about his tough immigration policies and focused on some of his usual criticisms of Democratic rivals. He also appeared to be referring to the video that nearly sank his 2016 campaign, as he marveled at the two giant mechanical arms that grabbed Elon Musk's reusable rocket, "like grabbing your beautiful baby."
“Look, I've improved a lot. Years ago, I would have said something else. But I've learned," Trump said, drawing laughter from the crowd. "I would have been a little more dangerous."
In the final weeks of the 2016 campaign, several Access Hollywood tapes were released in which Trump boasted about grabbing women by their genitals.
The former President will campaign in the cities of Reading and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, in which Democrat Kamala Harris is also campaigning. The Republican presidential candidate will close his campaign as he has closed his first two, with a late-night rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
