Israel's national security minister and member of far-right ultranationalist parties, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has reacted to a statement by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who said he was considering sanctioning him and one of his colleagues for comments " despicable" about the war in Gaza.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, told Israeli media that threats from the British prime minister "do not scare me". As he added that Britain has always been against the creation of the Jewish state.
" Just as before the creation of the Jewish state, the British worked to make it impossible, now they continue to do so after its creation in the midst of an existential struggle ," he said.
He also added that the days of the British Mandate, which saw the UK govern what was then Mandatory Palestine, "are over".
" They do not scare me and I will continue to act in accordance with the supreme national interests of the State of Israel alone and for the people of the country ," he added.
Sir Keir told the House of Commons earlier today that his government is "looking at" sanctions against Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who, along with Ben-Gvir, is a vocal supporter of settlements in the occupied West Bank.
