UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has said there is a "real possibility" Ukraine will retake Crimea from Russia this year.
Taking an encouraging view of Kiev's efforts on the battlefield, Wallace told the Washington Post that the peninsula could return to Kiev after nine years of Russian occupation as Moscow's forces run out of equipment.
" What we've seen on the battlefield is that if you hit Russian forces in the right place, they will actually collapse ," he said.
Wallace was more hesitant when asked about Ukraine's possible NATO membership, saying "we have to be realistic" and that "it's not going to happen" at an alliance summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, in July.
In a separate interview, Wallace said the best way forward as the conflict continues, he says, is to continue military aid to Ukraine.
