The former UK defence secretary has suggested that the US leaving NATO would not be the "end of the world" and urged Europe to increase support for Ukraine.
"I think we are now witnessing a new era, an era where we cannot take US security guarantees for granted. Now, I regret that very much and they have been the cornerstone of NATO and European security. If they were to withdraw from NATO, we would obviously be in a very different world," Sir Ben Wallace told the BBC.
"It's not the end of the world if they pull out of NATO," Wallace added. "Of course, it's terrible. But we have the will in Europe and the money to fix our own security and defense."
Ukraine can still defeat Russia - but only "if we all step up and replace what the Americans have taken away or show the proper European determination, including the UK, that we are not going anywhere."
