A leaked document allegedly reveals a dramatic US proposal to remove four countries from the European Union as part of a bold new "Make Europe Great Again" strategy.
The secret dossier, reported by Defense One, allegedly claims that Washington intends to withdraw Austria, Italy, Hungary and Poland from the EU, a move that would change the continent's political landscape.
The document also reportedly calls on the US to support parties and movements that "demand sovereignty and the preservation/restoration of traditional European ways of life."
The White House has strongly denied the claims, while the leak caused widespread alarm among European media and spread across social platforms.
A spokeswoman on Wednesday rejected the claim, and even the idea that there was an 'alternative version' of the strategy.
"President Trump is transparent and has signed a national security strategy that clearly directs the US Government to implement its stated principles and priorities," said White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly.

Trump's new doctrine portrays Europe's leaders as helpless in the face of mass migration, accusing the EU of eroding national sovereignty, suppressing political freedoms, and weakening the power of individual states.
It argues that the EU's migration policies are "transforming the continent and creating conflicts" and that Brussels is "undermining political freedom and sovereignty".
In an interview with Politico, he again criticized "rotting" European nations and their "politically correct" leaders, whose immigration policies, he said, were "destroying" their countries.
He called Europe's approach to migration a "disaster" and claimed that countries across the continent were being "destroyed" as a result.

However, Dutch politician Geert Wilders, leader of the far-right Party for Freedom in the Netherlands, welcomed the controversial report: "President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS is telling the truth," he wrote on X.
Europe is changing rapidly thanks to open borders and mass immigration.
"Indeed, an erasure of our culture if we don't act quickly and close our borders to illegal aliens!"
This comes just days after Trump warned that Europe is heading in a "very bad" direction.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, the US President said: "Europe needs to be very careful. They are doing a lot of things."
"We want to keep Europe. Europe is going in some bad directions."
He added: "It's very bad for people. We don't want Europe to change so much."
Trump was responding to a question about the EU's £105m fine on Elon Musk's social media platform X, but broadened his attack beyond tech regulators to criticise the entire 27-nation bloc.
To add fuel to the fire, the US President reposted a New York Post article on his Truth Social platform, with the headline: “Powerless Europeans can only rage when Trump rightly pulls them out of the Ukraine deal.”
President Volodymyr Zelensky met in London on Monday with British, French and German leaders, in a show of European support for Ukraine, at what they called a "critical moment" in US-led efforts to end Russia's war in Ukraine.
The high-level talks followed harsh comments from Trump, who accused the Ukrainian leader of dragging his feet on the peace deal.
"I have to say I'm a little disappointed that President Zelensky hasn't read the proposal yet," the US leader told reporters in Washington at the Kennedy Center on Sunday evening.
"Russia, I believe, agrees with it. But I'm not sure if Zelensky agrees with it. His people love it. But he hasn't read it," Trump said.
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev expressed his support for Trump on X, writing: “EU and UK leaders should listen to the Father.” /Adapted from Daily Mail /
