Epstein Files: Prison Guards Used 'Dead Body' to Mislead Journalists

New revelation from over 3 million files released by the US Department of Justice. Also reported is a handwritten note found in Epstein's cell...

Prison guards at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York allegedly used a “decoy body” to deceive reporters gathered outside the prison after the death of Jeffrey Epstein, while the real body was secretly removed in another vehicle, the allegations are contained in case documents recently declassified and made public by the US Department of Justice.

According to an internal memo, a prison supervisor told FBI agents that prison staff organized the action in light of increased media attention following what authorities described as Epstein's suicide in his cell in 2019.

Documents show that boxes and sheets were arranged to look like a human body and loaded into a white van bearing the markings of the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). This prompted reporters to follow the vehicle as it left the prison grounds.

Unbeknownst to the media, Epstein's real body was placed in a black vehicle, which left the facility "undetected," allowing authorities to transport the body privately.

According to the documents, this action was taken after a responsible official had warned the guards about the large number of journalists outside the prison and announced that he would arrive at the loading ramp in a special vehicle to collect the body.

The files also reveal that investigators found a handwritten note in Epstein's cell at the time of his death. This note was not considered a suicide note by the coroner.

According to investigators, the note was “difficult to read” and contained complaints about detention conditions, including food, showers and the presence of insects.

The documents are part of a package of about three million pages that were recently released and describe the authorities' response to the intense media attention in the hours after Epstein's death.

After he was pronounced dead at the hospital, his body was returned to the prison under federal custody while preparations were made for transfer to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. A witness note indicates that, due to the “large media presence,” staff devised a plan to “obstruct” reporters as the body was removed.

According to the document, officers "used boxes and sheets to create what appeared to be a human body, which was placed in the white OCME vehicle that was followed by the press, allowing the black vehicle to drive away unnoticed with Epstein's body."

Other parts of the files describe how Epstein's body was stored in a secure facility connected to the prison while procedures such as fingerprinting were carried out before transfer.

Jeffrey Epstein was being held in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, charged with trafficking minors for the purpose of sexual exploitation, until his death was announced on August 10, 2019.

According to official reports, he was found unconscious in his cell early that morning by guards. After attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he was rushed to a New York hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner concluded that the death was a suicide by hanging, a conclusion that has been repeatedly disputed due to a series of serious failures in prison security. These included guards sleeping on duty and malfunctioning security cameras, issues that became the subject of several investigations.

Investigators later confirmed that at least two surveillance cameras were not working, creating critical gaps in visual monitoring of the area. Because of these shortcomings, authorities were unable to reliably determine the exact chronology of Epstein's final moments.
