Light at the end of the tunnel? Kiev will see only darkness!

The Russian president said many things that made it seem like he wanted peace, but there is still no evidence that Moscow is prepared to give up any real ground.

Vladimir Putin said there is light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to peace in Ukraine. But I think Kiev will only see darkness and a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The Russian president said many things that made it seem like he wanted peace, but there is still no evidence that Moscow is prepared to give up any real ground.

For example, on security guarantees, Putin agreed that Ukraine is entitled to them. But just yesterday, he reiterated Russia's long-standing position that Kiev cannot join NATO, while continuing to rule out the presence of any European peacekeepers. So, no concessions there yet.

Regarding territory, he said that Russia is not fighting for land, but for human rights and the protection of Russian speakers. So why is he still demanding that Ukraine hand over territory that his forces have not occupied?

And then, regarding whether he is prepared to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, he said yes, only if he is in Moscow. But security concerns make it unlikely that Zelensky will agree. Would Putin go to Kiev? Of course not.

All of this was an attempt to encourage Donald Trump. He is trying to portray Russia as a party that wants peace and is flexible in its approach.
