Against the backdrop of the grand parade in Beijing, organized to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and China's liberation from Japanese occupation, an unusual, even strange scene was recorded on the microphones of the official broadcast: Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping discussing organ transplants and human lifespan up to 150 years.
The incident occurred as the two leaders, accompanied by Kim Jong Un, walked towards the grandstand in Tiananmen Square. As they walked past a crowd of 50,000 spectators and uniformed battalions, an open microphone caught them in a conversation that to many would sound more appropriate for a medical symposium than an international military-diplomatic summit.
According to a clip published by Bloomberg, broadcast live by CCTV and later confirmed by Putin himself, the Russian president's translator is heard saying in Chinese: "Biotechnology is developing rapidly. Human organs can be transplanted without stopping. The longer you live, the younger you become. You can even achieve immortality."
Xi Jinping is then heard responding off-camera: "Some predict that in this century, humans will live to be 150. In the past, it was a miracle to reach 70, while today, at that age you are still a child."
Meanwhile, Kim Jong Un appears smiling in the direction of the conversation, but it is not clear whether he understands the topic of discussion. A few seconds later, the camera cuts to a wide shot of the square and the audio cuts out. The trio of leaders reappear as they climb the steps to the podium to watch the military parade and China's display of power to the world.
The conversation, which many analysts have described as "not coincidental," comes at a time when Putin and Xi are strengthening not only strategic military and economic ties, but also cooperation in the fields of technology, science and... biological longevity.
For Western media, this scene is symbolic: the theater of a world divided between personal eternity and global domination, while Ukraine burns, Taiwan is threatened, and the West struggles to maintain international balance.
