President Joe Biden said the US remains steadfast in its commitment to defend Israel in the face of Iranian threats against the country.
Biden warned that Iran was threatening to launch a major attack on Israel following the killings of Iranian generals at the Iranian consulate in Damascus last week.
" As I have told Prime Minister Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel's security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad. We will do everything we can to protect Israel's security ," he said at a press conference in Rose Garden.
CNN previously reported that senior US officials believe an attack by Iran is "inevitable" - a view shared by their Israeli counterparts.
The US has been on high alert and actively preparing for a significant attack by Iran targeting Israeli or US assets in the region following the bombings in Syria.
Both governments are working frantically to position themselves for what's to come, as they anticipate that Iran's attack could unfold in a number of different ways — and that US and Israeli assets and personnel are at risk for to be targeted.
Further, Biden said that he has been both open and direct with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu in recent conversations, after reports that the US president is getting fed up with dealing with the prime minister. He said Israeli efforts to get more aid to Gaza were not enough.
When asked what Mr Netanyahu is doing to fulfill the commitments he has already made to the US, Biden replied: "We'll see."/ CNN
