The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that over the weekend it carried out new attacks, which it described as "defensive", against Iranian military targets in the city of Goruk and on the island of Qeshm, in the Persian Gulf.
In a post on the X platform, CENTCOM stated that the operations were conducted in response to "aggressive Iranian actions," including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone, which according to US authorities was flying over international waters.
According to the same announcement, US forces destroyed air defense systems, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones, which, according to the US assessment, posed a direct threat to ships moving in the region.
The latest operation takes place as negotiations continue between Washington and Tehran to extend the ceasefire and restore navigational safety in the Strait of Hormuz.
