The suspect initially admitted to killing the child, but later changed his story. The boy had been reported missing for about a year in Washington state.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Washington state, USA, on suspicion of murdering his 4-year-old son, who had been missing for about a year. Police found the child's body inside a garbage bag, buried in the yard of a home owned by the family.

Jacob Bevins faces charges of murder and making false or misleading statements to a public official. Investigators first contacted him on May 12 while searching for his 6-year-old daughter, who had been reported missing.

Authorities later confirmed that the girl was safe with her mother. However, during the investigation, police determined that the family's other child, 4-year-old Aiden Bevins, was missing and no one knew his whereabouts.

The father initially told investigators that the boy was living with relatives in another state. The child's mother, who was in prison at the time of his disappearance, also stated that she believed the boy was staying with relatives in Idaho. After verification, the relatives denied ever seeing or sheltering the 4-year-old.

On May 15, police discovered the child's body buried in the yard of a home belonging to his grandmother and the suspected father. Area resident Tammy Pratt said her family had noticed fresh soil marks near the site of the body and expressed concern because children often play in the area.

During questioning, Bevins initially admitted to hitting the boy in the head, causing his death. He later changed his testimony and claimed that the child had accidentally fallen, hit his head, and died while he was chasing him to the bathroom.

According to authorities, preliminary examinations showed that the child's injuries were caused by a blow with a hard object and not by an accidental fall, which contradicts the second version presented by the suspect.

US media reports that both children had previously been in the care of social services and were placed in foster care due to their mother's legal problems. They were later returned to their biological parents. The former foster parents, Gary and Magali Lopez, stated that they had repeatedly raised concerns about the children's safety and well-being with Child Protective Services.
